Introduction to GIS : Geographical Information System

    About the Workshop

This training focuses on useful fundamental knowledge and skills about remote sensing and geographic information system(GIS). In current usage, the term “remote sensing” generally refers to the use of satellite or aircraft-based sensor technologies to detect and classify objects on Earth, including on the surface and in the atmosphere and oceans, based on propagated signals (e.g. electromagnetic radiation). Whereas a geographic information system (GIS), also known as a geospatial information system is a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface. By relating seemingly unrelated data, GIS can help individuals and organizations better understand spatial patterns and relationships for policy and decisions making in multiple disciplines.
